SOLUBILITY : clear colorless to light yellow
solution at 50mg/ml in methanol. It is soluble in
ethanol, n-amyl alcohol, isoamyl alcohol, n-hexyl
alcohol, chloroform & benzene & slightly soluble in
cold water.

Application Neocuproine is used in the determination of
copper in water.
It is used in determination of copper in heavy
matrices by carbon furnace atomic-absorption.
Neocuproine reacts with copper(I) with the pH range
3-10, to form an orange complex extractable with
n-amyl & isoamyl alcohols, n-hexanol & MIBK.
Neocuproine is added to the sample as an ethanol
solution & the complex formed is extracted with
CHCl3. Substitution of methyl groups at 2- & 9-
positions in 1,10-phenanthroline renders the reagent
unreactive towards iron (II).
